Sony May Look To Merge PSP With Cell Phone

Welcome to rumour ville and hothardware.com is the mayor. Sony has stated that they are "considering developing a cellphone-game gear hybrid" to be implemented with the Ericsson line of cell phones

Reuters reported that the Nikkei business daily in Japan said Sony planned to start getting its team together on the project as soon as next month.

The intention is to have a hybrid type device that integrates the PSP with the Sony Ericsson creating A high powered portable gaming device with cellular capabilities. This is of course a plan to cut into the action that the iPhone has been receiving as of late.

Rumor: PS3, Xbox 360 price cut coming this fall

Are you ready for another round of price cut rumor? A trusted industry source from Ars Technica revealed that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 will be getting its fair share of price cut this fall.

According to the report, Sony is cleaning inventory on the 80 GB model PS3's in the weeks ahead gearing up for its final plan in 2009 to finally drop the price of the hardware and launch the rumored PS3 slim this fall.

On the Microsoft side, the Xbox 360 Pro will be replaced sometime in July or August by the current Xbox 360 Elite model following a September price cut and making the Elite the new Pro-level system.

Sony: PS3 firmware 3.0 rumor untrue

Earlier today, VG247 posted a rumor about the upcoming PS3 Firmware 3.0, which they describe as a huge overhaul for the console that will have major features just like NXE and is expected to be released before Christmas. But Sony quickly shut down the rumor and flatly denied any news pertaining to the upcoming PS3 firmware update.

According to the source from VG247, the PS3 Firmware 3.0 will be a completely new system for the console and will feature a reputation system in which users will be able to evaluate each other, and will be provided for game applications. IT will also have a new API so that the user can allow other users and obtain users reputation.

A grief reporting system will also be included that will allow gamers to take screens of offensive players and submit them to Sony. The firmware will also allow patches to be downloaded in the background, meaning you’ll no longer have to sit staring at the screen while Random Shooter updates itself with a 500Mb fix. A simultaneous HDMI and digital optical outputting will be included in the release.

VG247 claims they've been told that there are a lot more features and will be revealed soon. But a Sony rep released a statement and told gaming site Joystiq that the rumors are completely untrue and nothing has been announced or confirmed for the upcoming Playstation firmware, and this is just wild speculation.

PSP Firmware 5.50 Savegame Vulnerability Found; Exploit Released

Perhaps this is the reason behind Sony issuing PSP Firmware Update 5.51… A German developer who goes by the name of Miche2245 has discovered a Save Game vulnerability in PSP Firmware 5.50. Currently the Japanese version of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and the English version of Need for Speed: Underground work.

The exploit you may download below is for Monster Hunter 2. Once executed by loading the save game you can then utilize ChickHEN — the homebrew enabler — under PSP Firmware 5.50.

Props Miche2245. Nice work.

CXMB for 5.50 GEN Re-Released

Apparently this one, released by Matchung, works better than the previous unofficial CXMB for Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A. And not only that — it properly lists the themes under the appropriate [Settings] menu as shown in the screenshot below.

Unofficial CXMB Screenshot

Included in the package is CXMB itself and two CTF tools — ctf.exe & unctf.exe — for both decompiling and recompiling CTF themes.

Nevertheless — it’s worth checking out.

PS3 Firmware 2.80 coming out tomorrow?

The Gamer Access is speculating that the new PS3 Firmware 2.80 just might be announced very, very soon. On the SCEA's Press Information website, it was allegedly found that there was a link for the PS3 Debug Firmware Update 2.80. However, clicking on it only leads to the message "The file requested do not exist".

from The Gamer Access - Image 1

Meanwhile, The Examiner takes it further by predicting that the Firmware will be released as soon as tomorrow, identifying it as a basic update. It is said that while there will be no new additions to be made available, there will be a few fixes directed at increasing performance suc as in having faster Trophy synchronization and faster XMB loads.

Speculation also runs that it might introduce the messaging and game invite system, but again, this is not a hundred percent certain.
