So, remember when everyone was speculating that REBUG and "sp-int" (PSN dev. server access) was the reason for PSN going down? Well I don't believe it was, or at least Sony never led us to believe that, and further evidence suggests it wasn't REBUG at all. What evidence? Well the fact that you can still get on PSN using REBUG 3.55.1, sp-int, and this 3.61 spoofing method.

The 3.61 spoof is pretty simple: Download this "Spoof" package (here or here) -- it comes with dev_blind.pkg and a dev_flash folder. Inside dev_flash you'll find a sub-directory called vsh.

1.Install jjolano's dev_blind and OpenPS3FTP
2.Start dev_blind
3.Start OpenPS3FTP
4.FTP to your console and browse to the dev_blind folder
5.Backup the vsh folder located under dev_blind; more specifically
◦dev_blind/vsh/etc/index.dat
◦dev_blind/vsh/etc/version.txt
◦dev_blind/vsh/module/vsh.self
6.Overwrite those files with the ones found in the spoof package downloaded above
7.Restart your PS3
If everything went well you should see 3.61 under [Settings] -> [System Settings] -> [System Information]. If not, well ... you're using this at your own risk. We are not responsible if you damage or brick your console. Remember: Messing with flash memory can be dangerous. Act wisely.

Now change to sp-int mode in REBUG and try it out. But of course "sp-int" means you're playing on development servers, which aren't overly populated, and who knows what implications that may cause with your PSN account or console.

That said, I'm not clear as to whether or not Server Mapper works, or if pcfreak30's DNS still does the trick, but if it does, that means you're back on retail/production PSN with your hacked custom firmware.

Can't say I'm surprised that Sony never fixed/blocked sp-int access.

Update: Reports seem to indiciate that it is now patched ... or maybe it's down due to this, from the PlayStation blog:

PlayStation Network is scheduled to undergo maintenance today, from about 8am until approximately 5pm Pacific time. During this time, registration and Account Management will be inaccessible, including the password reset process. While some users may experience difficulty signing in to PSN, the majority of consumers will be able to play online as well as sign in to external sites that require PSN authentication (like this one).

For those asking about the PlayStation Store, we’re still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month. Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today.

6.3X Downgrader v3.1 w.

PSP Developer some1 has today published its PSP OFW 6.38 Downgrader to contribute to the Genesis Competition!

The downgrader works on a original 6.38 FW (HEN or CFW is not needed to downgrade!) and you can downgrade to Firmware 6.35.

It supports all PSP models (1000, 2000, 3000 and PSP Go) except 07g/09g (newer = 3000).
Support for 07G and 09G will be added later by downgrading the PSPs to OFW 6.35 instead of OFW 6.20.
With 07g & 09g support added, 07g & 09g model PSP-3000s will be downgraded to firmware 6.35, while all other models will be downgraded to firmware 6.20. You will need to include the appropriate firmware updater (either 6.35 or 6.20

If you have a PSP-3000 and do not know which modules your PSP has installed, you can download and run the PSP Module Checker to find out, then proceed downgrading.
